Opening the blinds from a laptop
My motorized blinds are run by a four-channel handheld remote on 433.42 MHz. It uses rolling codes, so recording a button press and replaying it won't work. The receiver would reject the old code.
Why not the LoRa radio
My first thought was the LoRa board I already had. It can't do it. Its radio chip has no OOK mode, the simple on-off keying these remotes use, and its antenna is tuned for 915 MHz.
The plan
- An ESP32 dev board, plus a CC1101 module, a cheap radio that covers 433 MHz.
- Open-source firmware made for exactly these blinds. It gives a web page, an HTTP API and MQTT.
- Pair it as an extra remote using the PROG button on the real one, so the original keeps working.
The parts came in October 18. Wiring is next. Before wiring anything, I'll check that the module says 433 and not 868 or 915.
